Description of Duties

The Automation/Controls Manager will:

  • Manage Controls, Engineering and IT team along with the company information systems, including the advanced controls and automation technology, the desktop network, and the communications systems with a direct reporting to the Plant Manager and Control and IT with a dotted line to Israel.
  • Work with the Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Departments as well as outside contractors to troubleshoot problems on the production line, to minimize downtime, and to support continuous process improvement.
  • Provide support in the following areas: Programmable Logic Controllers, Human Machine Interface, automation, and desktop networks.
  • Maintain the ERP system and site network which includes layer 3 and other manageable switches, servers operating Windows Server 2003; as well as backup, storage, telephone, communication, and security systems.
  • Coordinate any outside contractors working on company communications equipment to ensure projects are completed in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Provide training to supervisory staff on relevant systems.

The Automation/Controls Manager will have:

  • 3-5 years minimum Management expertise.
  • Four-year degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field required.
  • Two to five years of experience in controls and automation, with experience in working with mid-sized multinational companies a plus.
  • Experience in implementation, management, and maintenance of controls, automation, and mid-tier ERP systems.
  • Siemens system knowledge is preferred.
  • Excellent organizations skills are required.
  • Experience in Storage, file server, DRP setup.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Responsibilities:

  • Transfer materials between trucks, warehouses, and throughout the production floor as necessitated for the smooth flow of production.
  • Accept shipments upon arrival at building.
  • Provide support as needed to logistics and production staff, mainly in the area of materials transfer, using forklifts, bale clamps, pallet jacks, and other necessary equipment.
  • Examine records such as purchase orders, packing slips, waybills, logs, etc., to ensure completeness of all outgoing shipments and accuracy of records.
  • Maintain general order and organization of area.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by Management.
  • Support the company’s quality and safety initiatives.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience working in manufacturing logistics, with experience in continuous process manufacturing a plus.
  • Previous certification in forklift driving, bale clamp operation, and pallet jack strongly preferred; experience driving a forklift required.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds regularly.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
  • Professional, customer-focused demeanor, particularly on the telephone and in greeting guests.
  • Strong attention to detail accountability for accuracy of all work produced. A high level of organization skills and the ability to multi-task effectively is required.

If you’re a self-driven team player, that likes to be a part of a highly qualified and efficient, team we want you. Successful candidates must be self-driven, flexible, and willing to work any shift. Skilled Operators are responsible for operating continuous production line equipment, while facilitating maximum capacity and minimal downtown. Skilled Operators must be able to work well with members of various departments, including their home department, lab technicians, quality, and members of management.

Additional Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing job duties in compliance with site safety rules and notify appropriate management of any safety hazards, with the intent of supporting an injury-free work environment.
  • Abiding by job related procedures, work instructions and other guidelines designed to help ensure the quality of the finished product.
  • Monitoring and making adjustments to line production processes using HMI’s (Human Machine Interfaces) to ensure high levels of quality and maximum capacity
  • Troubleshooting and anticipating problems to correct or prevent interruptions to the line, using powers of observation and hearing, knowledge of formulas and percent mixes of different product, and familiarity and experience with fibers
  • Working closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure consistent performance of quality checks and appropriate response to results
  • Routinely performing preventative maintenance and replace key parts
  • Working as a team with other operators and lab technician on each shift, maintaining communication using verbal skills (“hand-off” meetings), written skills (emails, logs, reports), and body language
  • Maintaining work area and equipment cleanliness
  • Supporting the company’s quality and safety initiatives

The Skilled Operator will have:

  • High School Diploma or GED, with a two-year technical degree desired and a four-year degree a plus
  • Two years of experience in a manufacturing or technical field, with experience in continuous process manufacturing or in non-woven textile manufacturing a plus
  • Education and/or experience with the operation of computers – Excel is a plus
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Experience or equivalent education in fundamentals of mechanics and electricity, with demonstrated ability to operate and fix mechanical and electrical devices on a small scale
  • The ability to lift at least 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds regularly
  • The ability to drive various types of lifts is preferred for this position

  • A minimum of Two-year Technical degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience with computerized manufacturing processes preferred

  • Manage projects while supporting the production line

  • Help define new equipment requirements and acceptance criteria

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
  • Ability to successfully apply engineering theory to reality
  • Strong grasp of statistics and the application thereof
  • Project management and prioritization skills
  • Availability to work flexible hours
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification a plus
